8. Map, management and a question for you

Map collecting stones #1

We have completely devoted ourselves to picking up stones this week. We want to make the first two fields of no less than 4500 m2 cultivable before October. To achieve this within 3 months, we are doing everything we can to get this done.

Our mornings are dedicated to picking stones. The alarm goes off at 4.30 am and we are usually outside our tent less than half an hour later to start. We take the wheelbarrow and buckets and then walk to the fields and get to work. While it is certainly not a complicated job, it can be quite challenging mentally and physically. We persevere and we are quite proud of that.

We think it would be fun to take you along in the process by means of a weekly map. On the map you can see in green what has already been done and in black what we have gathered in the past week.

The uncolored part is still waiting for us to be collected!

Behind the scenes

This week we used the afternoons to do “behind the scenes” work. By this we mean; doing a lot of research, planning, philosophizing, organizing and for example writing this blog 🙂

We consider the work behind the scenes to be a very important part. There’s a lot to manage, which brings us to the next topic.

Our management

We have made the move to move to Portugal to set up an organic herb farm. We also have many other projects including our own vegetable garden. Our aim is to ultimately eat as much fruit and vegetables as possible from our own garden and process them into tasty dishes.

We think it would be nice to distribute these core projects in such a way that we can use our attention in a targeted manner and better guide/assist eachother. We decided to appoint Jesse as manager of the herb farm and Elin as vegetable garden manager.

What herbs do you want?

Our first instinct was to sell our harvest in bulk to organic wholesalers. Now we wonder if we should directly offer it to you, the reader, for a really fair price first.

In this scenario, the stock will only provide for a short time and after a certain period of time the surplus will be sold to the wholesalers. This means that by selling directly to the customer, we offer dried herbs from a fresh harvest.

Now the question is; which herbs would you like to see in our assortment?

If there is enough interest, we will select herbs from the list below and free up a nice piece of earth for them. You may also add herbs that are not listed to the list below. Thank you!
